DEI

AAUW seeks to promote inclusion and awareness for all members and to create an equitable, sustainable and inclusive membership reflective of today’s world. Auburn AAUW recognizes the need to attract and retain members and to celebrate the diversity that all individuals bring.

The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) committee aims to identify best practices for promoting diversity, equity and inclusion within Auburn AAUW and encourage all members to seek ways to incorporate inclusive practices into their branches and daily life.  If you are interested in participating on this committee, contact Julann Brown, committee chair.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) are concepts that are often used interchangeably but mean quite different things.

Diversity: the condition of having or being composed of differing elements; the inclusion of different types of people (such as people of different races or cultures).

Equity:

justice according to natural law or right –  specifically freedom from bias or favoritism.

Inclusion:
the act or practice of including and accommodating people who have historically been excluded because of their race, gender, sexuality, or ability.

Recognizing what makes us different and unique is important.  By taking DEI into consideration, we build a better society.
